How I overcame having an unhealthy gut.

Once upon a time, I had a lot of digestive issues.

I had bloating.

I had weight issues

I had weekly migraines

My skin was full of acne…as an adult.

I was always tired.

And I had severe hormonal imbalances, which led to several fibroids.

I felt anxious and moody.

And I was stress eating.

I never realized that most of those issues were a sign of an unhealthy gut.

I thought it was “normal”.

When I realized that something was wrong and found a healthy detox to help get rid of toxins that had affected my gut health, I was able to suddenly improve all my health issues.

I found out I was onto something. And that was an exciting moment in my life.

Because in the end, that is why I’m sitting here writing to you.

Thanks to the realization and seeing how many other people are struggling with this, I wanted to help them.

I became a master certified transformational nutrition coach and specialized in gut health, besides a few others such as hormonal health, emotional eating, and weight loss.

So actually, when I realized that the signs of an unhealthy gut was the root cause of everything else, I learned how to improve that through a holistic approach.

Starting with a detox, which is similar to my 10 Day reset diet, I went literally from bloating to no bloating, my weight improved and I never had any fibroids again.

My migraine went from weekly to maybe two or three times a year.

My skin became super clear, and I am mostly full of energy, as you probably know if you follow me.

I was able to go through peri menopause and menopause without weight issues or any other kind of symptoms related to that.

Knowing that gut inflammation is the root cause of many health and weight issues, I really wanted to be able to dive deep into that and learn anything I can to help others achieve the same.

I want to share with you what I’ve learned through my own journey and working with hundreds and hundreds of clients over many years.

Sometimes just addressing bloating can help you overcome weight issues when you’re stuck or when you’re constantly yoyo dieting, or having this mid-range fat or a balloon kind of feeling like watermelon or grapefruit.

If you are dreaming of finally having this flat tummy and feeling better, getting more energy, more confidence, and losing weight, then I have news for you because I will share with you the signs of an unhealthy gut and then we go a little bit deeper into how to overcome this.

Signs of an unhealthy gut

Bloating and bowel movements

Most of us don’t think bloating is an issue. Many people think bloating is normal and quite honestly I thought that too, but bloating is not normal. So if you have pain gas, or bowel movements that either are too frequent or not enough frequent, this might be a sign of an unhealthy gut.

To give you an idea, the frequency of bowel movements should ideally be one to three times a day.

If you have BMs only one to four times a week, or if you have more than three times a day, then there’s something that’s not right.

You also want to check the consistency. And by the way, if you’re interested in learning more, please contact me, I have some tools I can share with you that show you actually what type of consistency you want in your bowel movement.

And maybe that’s TMI, but look, I’m here to help you. And sometimes we have to talk about those things.

Fatigue

Sleeping badly or being tired all the time, maybe another sign of unhealthy gut issues.

Weight

If you’re struggling to lose weight, you’re yoyo dieting, or if you are stress eating may also be a sign of an unhealthy gut.

Health issues

A lot of other health issues such as skin issues, hormonal imbalances, immune issues, and inflammation may be signs of an unhealthy gut.

If in doubt, always check with your health care professional.

I find that the gut is the basis of everything else and often repairing your gut will lead you to overall health.

Unhealthy Gut Issues

There are plenty of gut issues and I see with clients issues like IBS, SIBO, (small intestine bacterial overgrowth)or Crohn’s disease.

Leaky gut is something that can be potentially dangerous and even lead to other issues such as autoimmune diseases.

Ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, GERD, acid reflux, hemorrhoids, gallstones, and candida, could be signs of an unhealthy gut.

Any other digestive bacterial or viral infections, and parasites may lead to chronic gut inflammation

You definitely want to see what’s going on there.

Causes of an Unhealthy Gut

I found that diet is the highest contributor leading to gut issues.

Processed foods, diets too high and sugar, wrong foods for you, unbalanced diets, intolerances to certain types of foods such as gluten, medication, and antibiotics can all lead to gut health issues and gut inflammation.

Stress eating is a huge contributor,  and so are heavy metal and environmental toxins.

Repair an Unhealthy Gut

We are always looking, into supporting your gut health in a holistic manner as much as possible

I will share with you the easiest strategies that you can implement immediately.

I will also give you some pointers on how to dive deeper because let’s face it, if you had many years of gut issues, just changing one thing is a great start but may not solve all.

Nutritional Strategies

  1. Avoid sugar and processed foods.
  2. Avoid artificial sweeteners.
  3. Limit or exclude grains.
  4. Avoid vegetable oils like canola oil, soybean oil, and peanut oil as well as margarine and shortening, which are high in inflammatory fats like omega-6 fatty acids and trans-fats. Instead, switch to healthier fat options like grass-fed ghee, extra-virgin olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil.
  5. Eat an abundance and a variety of plant-based foods. Choose organic and local as much as possible.
  6. Drink enough spring water or filtered water.
  7. Check on intolerances and cut them out
  8. Include a variety of healthy Proteins

Lifestyle Strategies

  1. Avoid unnecessary antibiotic treatment.
  2. Avoid antacids.
  3. Limit alcohol.
  4. Avoid pollutants
  5. Reduce stress.
  6. Increase self-care.

By the way, my 10 day reset diet is one of the things that helped me.

It helps you to cut out all those intolerances you might be having such as gluten, dairy, and cut them out so you can repair your gut.

If you want to dive deeper,  you definitely want to look for the root causes of your unhealthy gut or your other health and weight issues and check out your bowel movements.
