Why do you need to keep your thyroid healthy?

Many people don’t know how important it is to keep this gland healthy.

The thyroid gland is the single most important gland in our bodies, and when it malfunctions, it can cause many troubling symptoms.

Furthermore, if you want to maintain high energy levels and avoid getting sick all the time, you need to look after your health.

Now you might be asking yourself this question:

What do I eat?

Luckily, the health of your thyroid depends heavily on what you eat and put in your body.

To keep it happy and healthy, your body needs appropriate amounts of iodine and selenium.

Try incorporating the following foods in your diet for better iodine and selenium levels. 

  • Yogurt:

First, yogurt is an excellent source of iodine. Fat-free, plain, and Greek yogurts are your best options.

  • Berries:

Next, berries like blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are packed with iodine, selenium, and vitamin D.

Moreover, these berries provide a variety of other nutrients, as well as high antioxidant levels, which are important for thyroid health.

Goji berries and cranberries contain the highest number of antioxidants.

You can eat these berries raw, or you can use them in smoothies or an acai bowl. You can use them to top yogurt or oatmeal. 

  • Fish:

There are many reasons why thyroid health declines. Fish contain all the necessary nutrients to keep your thyroid healthy.

One 3-ounce serving of cod contains around 99 milligrams of iodine. If you do not like fish then you can opt for cod liver oil supplements.
